The Twinmax was tested by RiDE Magazine
as the most accurate Carburettor Balancer.

Synchronising carbs using the TWINMAX is
Simple and Quick, providing
Professional Level Accuracy at an affordable price!

  • Use with any number of cylinders
  • Suitable for fuel injection systems
  • Absolutely accurate - equivalent to 1mm of mercury
  • Electronic - no moving parts
  • No Mercury, springs, weights or dials
  • Use with virtually any machine!
  • No need to keep the TWINMAX vertical!
  • Portable
  • Compact
  • Easy to use

Until now carburettor balancers have used dial gauges, tubes containing mercury or spring loaded weights. Because each cylinder must have its own tube or gauge, this system has built-in inaccuracies due to the variances in manufacturing tolerances, friction differences, volumes of mercury or tension of springs in each of the gauges or tubes.
As a result of this it is particularly difficult to ensure that each gauge or tube will give precisely the same reading on a given amount of vacuum.

The TWINMAX is different and couldn't be simpler!

The TWINMAX works by comparing the vacuum present on either side of a single pressure sensor and showing any deviation across the central zero on the meter. The carburettor being set up at that time is then adjusted until the meter reads zero, as two perfectly balanced sources of vacuum will give no deviation.

Thus potential errors are eliminated and there is only one reading to take at any time! For multi-cylinder engines, one of the cylinders is used as a reference cylinder and the other cylinders are balanced in turn to this reference cylinder - if each cylinder is precisely balanced to the reference cylinder they will also perfectly match each other. Many engines already have one cylinder set up for this purpose.

1 x Twinmax Mk3 balancer unit
2 x Connecting Hoses, 85cm in length
1 x PP3 9v battery
2 x Inner Sleeves for use with BMW motorcycle Bing carbs or Throttle Bodies, which have a narrow diameter vacuum take-off stub.
The Sleeve is fitted over the stub before fitting the Twinmax Hose.

Complete instructions for use

Note - NO Adapters are included - select the ones you need from the drop-downs, if you need them.

The Twinmax Vacuum Take-off adapters are designed for those engines where the carbs/throttle bodies do not have built-in take-off stubs.

All BMW Oilhead and most Airhead BMW's have take-off stubs, so adapters are not required.

Most Japanese engines do not have vacuum take-off stubs fitted.

How They Work

Most carbs/throttle bodies that do not have vacuum take-off stubs usually have the tappings ready, sealed with a blanking plug/screw.
The Twinmax Adapter replaces that blanking plug/screw, thus providing access to the vacuum.

If your engine already has tappings, you will need to ascertain whether they are 5mm or 6mm and then select the correct Adapters to add to the Cart.

For engines where there are not ready-tapped take-offs or existing take-off stubs, it will be necessary to drill and tap (to either 5mm or 6mm as required) either the carb/throttle body in the appropriate place, or drill and tap the inlet manifold AFTER the throttle (i.e. between the carb/throttle body and the cylinder head)

What's Included

The minimum purchase is for a pair of either 5mm or 6mm Adapters, as required.
